You should really get this book... THE BABY BOOK, Everything you need to know about your baby from birth to age two, by William and Martha Sears, MD, with Robert and James Sears, MD (a family of doctors).

I found some info which migh be helpful...

"How much? How often?
- newborns: 1-2 ounces at each feeding
- 1-2 months: 3-4 ounces per feeding
- 2-3 months: 4-6 months per feeding
- 6-12 months: up to 8 ounces per feeding

Small, more frequent feedings works better than larger onces spaced further apart. Your baby's tummy is about the size of his fist and you'll see why tiny tummies often spit formula back up when they're given too much at one time. Sometimes baby is thirsty and not hungry. Often a bottle of water if you think your baby might be thirsty. Because formulas are more heavily concentrated than breast milk, we advice parents to give their baby a least 4-8 ounces of water a day (breastfed babies do not need extra water).

Scheduling the Bottlefeeding Baby

Formula-fed babies are easier to schedule than breastfed babies. Because fomula digest more slowly.
There are two types of infant feeding practices: demand feeding, in which baby is fed every time his little tummy desires, and scheduled feeding, when baby is fed at certain fixed times during the day, usually every 3 hours, and when awakening during the night. Cue feeding is for infant satisfaction and scheduled feeding is for your convienence. Tiny babies have tiny tummies. Most babies do best on smaller, more-frequent feedings. Giving your baby a bottle every three hours (rather than four) is most in keeping with a balance between baby's satisfaction and parents' lifestyle..."

The book also has articles on "Is Baby Getting Too Little or Too Much Formula?"... and "Combo Feeding: Breast and Bottle"

YOU SHOULD REALLY GET THIS BOOK. It's a bible for taking care of babies, recommended by so many experts and Parents Magazine, etc. Everything you need to know is in there!

There is also a section on Baby Wearing (in a carrier or sling)... It reduces crying and colic, enhances learning, promotes cognitive developement, enhances parent-infant bonding, so babies cry less, grow better, learn more, and talk better! So get your sling or Bjorn out and enjoy wearing your baby while it lasts!
